Fall 2010: Grunge 2.0

Fall is a fashion lover’s new year. And the celebratory dogma consists of good amounts of shopping and much more coveting. In this volume of Fall 2010’s shopping guide we take a look at were to get some of the season’s key styles to capture the glamorized grunge look, which is a big part of the ’90s fashion revival.

Suede Jacket. Unlike it’s slicker, more weather-permitting cousin leather, suede is not a season-less staple. In fact, it was thought downright tacky for many years. But with many of the other ’90s styles the fuzzy skins have swung back into favor – in shoes, handbags, and definitely in outerwear.

Plaid Shirt. It doesn’t get much more iconic when it’s comes the plaid shirt for grunge. But this time around it’s okay for it to be in good shape – and clean! This piece is one of the most versatile in the get up and can also be worn to play grunge’s nemesis: The Prep.

Maxi Skirt. Dramatic, yet comfortable; sexy, yet warm and modest. The maxi skirt is that perfect way to fall feminine that’s somehow casual and dressy all at once. Fitting close to the body and skimming the ground, a good maxi can make even a white t-shirt look elegant.

Beanie. No grunge get up is complete without a beanie. Not only do they keep your head warm, they say “hey man, don’t harsh my mellow” without you having to ever utter a word. Be sure to buy them oversized and wear them slouching off the crown of your head. After all, you don’t want to look anything but relaxed.

Chain-Handle Bag. Don’t forget: this isn’t grunge. This is Grunge 2.0, so there’s no need to recreate the Cobain era piece for piece (that would be called costume, not clothing). A chain-handle bag is a good addition to grunge in the new millenium.
