I Could Almost Give Up Leather!
by The Fashion Cult
… almost.
I have a sometimes disturbing obsession with handbags. And my favorite ones are crafted from the finest leather. That is, they are stitched together for the dead and dyed skins of who-knows-what animals. The finest bags are often claimed to be made from lambskin…
awwww
But wait. I’m not one of these bleeding-heart types that won’t walk in the grass because a beetle might get bruised. I believe pretty firmly in the mighty circle of life that says pretty much all things are up for consumption. HOWEVER, our wildly materialistic, capitalistic, mass media-driven, globalizing culture has definitely put an unnecessary burden at the earth and it’s flora and fauna. I can recognize that. What’s more, I find myself compelled toward a vegetarian diet – not because I want to fit into that size 6 Charles Nolan pencil skirt at the back of my closet, but because it just feels better.
So when I see brands like Melie Bianco I am pleased. Generally, my problem with faux leather bags is that they are just plain ugly. But this line is made completely from man-made materials and the bags are lovely. More choices like this and… (oh, but I sooo love Rebecca Minkhoff)… well, I’m not making any promises.
Melie Bianco sample sale happening now at Hautelook.

I saw these today on Hautelook as well. I love Melie Bianco handbags and they are fabulous vegan bags with great quality but admittedly I got a beautiful Foley & Corrina City Tote on Hautelook that I carry as well. So I won’t judge!
