Fur or Faux?

Since last year, designers have been incorporating more and more fur into their lines. Accordingly, the trend has really begun to make a splash among the masses and the trendy fur wears have gone from subtle fur trims and linings to big fur hats and all-over mink bomber jackets.

I admit it. I, too, have bent to the collective couture will of the fashion industry and taken a liking to the look of fur. For instance, check out these pretties

Julian McDonald (could do without the beads),

and Giuseppe Zanotti.

Still, I just can’t get down with real fur. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of these paint-throwing PETA types. Though I don’t do it myself, I think eating meat is fine and, yes, I wear leather. But fur, i’ve decided, i will not do. Several sources insist that there are high-end alternatives, but they’re so hard to find!

A Net search dug up a few acceptable examples:

This Juicy Couture jacket is a decent alternative to the McDonald one above. It comes in mahogany too.

These leg warmers aren’t terrible. (Just don’t wear them with those awful square toe boots. ick).

And these Marc Jacobs rain boots with faux trim are cute… but they aren’t like those ^ beautiful Zanottis.

Here’s to hoping more designers will decide to go faux.
